Virginia McLaurin never thought she would live to see a black president or visit the Whitehouse. She requested a visit to the Whitehouse and received a invite for the black history reception. Ms. McLaurin was so happy to meet President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama that she started to dance.

Ms. McLaurin was born on March 12, 1909 in South Carolina, she has lived through 18 presidents.  On her petition she stated “I’ve never met a president. I didn’t think I would live to see a colored president because I was born in the South and didn’t think it would happen.”  When Ms. McLaurin met President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama she said “I thought I would never live to get in the White House. And I tell you, I am so happy. A black president! A black wife! And I’m here to celebrate black history. Yeah, that’s what I’m here for.” as she danced for joy.
